Trauma and Burnout Therapy in El Paso, Texas

You’ve pretended to be someone else for so long. It’s time to embrace who you truly are.

You’re very familiar with success and accomplishments, yet you find it difficult to believe you deserve rest and love. It feels strange to have free time. When you experience time to yourself, you quickly rush to fill it with something else on your to do list. You are left feeling exhausted and anxious and wonder how you got yourself into the same situation.

You feel high levels of stress on a daily basis and constantly replay conversations in your head, you question what you could have said differently, and second-guess every decision you’ve made.

You’re realizing you’ve grown resentful of the people you love the most, including yourself because of your people- pleasing tendencies. Still, there’s a voice inside of you that tells you you must keep going, you can’t slow down or everything you’ve worked hard for will fall apart.

You’re self- aware and understand that your body is begging you to slow down. You’re ready to start making decisions rooted in what you truly want rather than what shame and guilt tell you to do. You’re ready to feel like you are enough without performing, without doing more.

The Cycle goes like this

  • You feel overwhelmed by your to do list and instead of starting, you doom scroll and procrastinate to feel a slight sense of control. You now feel guilty and force yourself to complete your list in the short amount of time you have left to overcompensate. During this time, your brain either shuts down or begins to overthink. The cycle continues and leaves you feeling disconnected from yourself.

  • You feel guilty for spending time with loved ones and doing things you enjoy. You think “I could be doing more with this time”. You struggle to stay present because your mind begins to think about everything on your to- do list.

  • You wonder why others are not as productive as you. Why your loved ones don’t do for you as much as you do for them. You learned to earn love by doing more for others and now you feel emotionally drained and resentful.

I’m Deandra Serrano, LPC Associate

I’m glad you’re here. At Para el Alma, I help clients teach their body and mind that it is okay to slow down. Childhood trauma and neglect often makes individuals internalize shame and believe they must do more to be loved. Together we will work to uncover the beliefs and behavioral patterns that cause you to self- abandon and keep you feeling stuck.

As someone who learned early on that her needs were not as important as the needs of others, I know what it’s like to struggle setting boundaries with yourself and those you love. I was you, and lets be honest, occasionally I still am you. This experience allows me to show up compassionately and authentically with each client and in turn inspire clients to do the same.

Something tells you there’s more to life than waking up feeling powerless and exhausted every day. My job as a therapist is to help you uncover what you already know to be true about yourself and trust it. In therapy, you will learn to manage your responsibilities while ensuring that your needs are a top priority on the list. I will remind you that boundaries are a necessary part of life and they don’t make you selfish.
